Legendary and still going strong!
HFF is located right in the media city Babelsberg in the state of Brandenburg, right on the outskirts of Berlin. The German capital region is a metropolis of creativity and a hub of the media with more than 1000 journalists reporting from here.
Babelsberg Media City
The history of the Babelsberg film studios is the story of a legend, one that began in 1912 and has grown with breakneck speed since. The Blue Angel, The Nibelungen, Metropolis, Murnau, Lang, Lilian Harvey, Marlene-Dietrich, Zarah Leander – names which immediately conjure up striking images. More recently, The Counterfeiters, Speed Racer, The Bourne Trilogy, The Constant Gardner and The Pianist have all been shot and/or produced here.
Located on the same grounds as the studio is Grundy Ufa, one of the largest TV production companies in Europe as well as many other producers. The RBB (Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg), the public broadcasting station of the capital region, is also producing and broadcasting its TV and radio programmes from here.
A college which trains young talent for the media branches located in the middle of film and television studios – this is unique! No other European media college can boast training its students in the direct vicinity of a media production centre, and no other European film studio has the creative potential of so much young talent on its doorstep.
Germany’s creative capital
Film, music, fashion, design and the media and arts all contribute to the city’s thriving urban atmosphere drawing on its incredible history. To offer INSIGHT OUT participants a taste of Berlin, visits to leading post-production companies and dinners in the city, in which Marlene Dietrich always kept a suitcase, are an integral part of the symposium.
