Case Study Digital Cinema: Antichrist

Antichrist will be presented as a case study   and discussed with members of the film crew. Stefan Ciupek (Digital Camera Supervisor, Digital Colorist) and Peter Hjorth (2nd Unit Director, VFX Supervisor) will talk about their artistic requirements and the workflow they decided to employ. 



About Stefan Ciupek
Stefan was born in Berlin, he studied media design and started his career in different fields of the media industry. Since 1997, he has worked on commercials, feature films, short films, documentaries, music videos and art projects. Noted for his special knowledge about HD Cameras and HD technologies, he was, among others, involved in Slumdog Millionaire, Antichrist and Dear Wendy. Besides, he has written for the American Cinematographer, Professional Production, DigiMedia and Film & TV Kameramann.

About Peter Hjorth
Peter Hjorth is where Denmarks top directors turn for their visual effects and special projects.
Peter has worked in film and television for 20 years and mainly does feature film projects.

Peter Hjorth has worked to transform visual effects from technology to an art form, challenging concepts of perspective, space and movement using techniques like "massive multi camera" and Automavision™ "automated cinematography".

"Antichrist" is the 5th and latest collaboration with Trier and work has included concept development, test shooting, storyboarding, second unit directing, effects editing and a VFX post tour of Sweden (with Filmgate), Poland (Platige Image), and his native Copenhagen (with Gearless and others).

Peter Hjorth was awarded the Danish Film Academy "Robert", Best Special Effects Award three times for "Antichrist" (with Zentropa),  for "Adams Apples" (with M&M productions/Shortcut) and "It's all about Love" (with Nimbus Film/ Gearless), and was also nominated for his work on "Brothers" (with Zentropa / Gearless) and "Manderlay" (with Zentropa / Gearless).
He has created a wide array of special projects for feature films from multicamera setups involving 100 dv-cameras ("Dancer in the Dark") , 170 layer "Eye of God" shots for "Dogville" most recently Automavision, developed with Lars von Trier for his latest feature film "The Boss of it All"

Other Peter Hjorth credits include Susanne Bier (Brothers), Anders Thomas Jensen (Adam's Apples), Lone Scherfig (Italian for Beginners, Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself) and Thomas Vinterberg (Festen/ The Celebration).

About Dirk Meier
German colorist and postproduction consultant, he is an expert at colour management and post-production for digital projects. He has worked for FARBKULT, The Post Republic, Zentropa, as well as Platige Image, WDR and CinePostproduction, and on films such as Russian Ark, No Nettwork, Snow and Antichrist.
